Context

Sirius is Groupe Le Monde's in-house editorial CMS. Journalists use it across the full article lifecycle: preparation, drafting, enrichment, publishing, updates, and live coverage.

The platform sits at the core of daily editorial operations and must stay consistent, responsive, and reliable at scale.

Sirius structures editorial collaboration at scale with mission-critical reliability.

Starting point

Some teams were still drafting content in shared Word documents before integrating it into the CMS.

This created recurring friction:

  • scattered text versions
  • weak collaboration flow
  • manual fixes before publishing
  • heterogeneous practices across teams

The objective was to align workflows in Sirius with an editor that truly matches newsroom needs.

Challenges

  • Centralize writing and collaboration in one core tool
  • Strengthen the editor with newsroom-specific capabilities
  • Secure real-time live workflows
  • Maintain excellent availability on a critical production product
  • Start integrating AI-assisted correction features

Approach

1. Prioritize high-impact editorial needs

Roadmap decisions were made with editorial stakeholders to focus on the operational bottlenecks first.

2. Evolve the editor on concrete newsroom use cases

We strengthened core editor capabilities for daily journalist workflows:

  • content enrichment
  • typographic rules
  • publishing constraints
  • smoother review and correction cycles

3. Consolidate collaboration and real-time workflows

Live coverage and collaborative editing flows were reinforced to improve coordination between editorial roles and reduce execution friction.

4. Open the path for editorial AI

Early AI-assisted correction capabilities were introduced progressively, in a pragmatic way compatible with production constraints.

Results

Sirius became an even stronger foundation for Le Monde's editorial production.

Collaboration is better structured, publishing workflows are smoother, and teams now operate with a more consistent execution framework at scale.

The product is ready for the next acceleration phase, especially around AI assistance and advanced editorial workflows.
